3G Cellular Phase Out Begins in Early 2022

Now is the time to start planning for the phase out of 3G cellular networks. Throughout early 2022, older phones and devices that use 3G will lose service, including the ability to dial 911. Check with older adults in your life who have older phones, and come up with a plan.

According to the FCC, the 3G phase out will also impact “certain medical devices, tablets, smart watches, vehicle SOS services, home security systems, and other connected products that may be using 3G network service.”

Check with your mobile carrier to determine if you need to upgrade your device or software. Networks are ending 3G in phases, with the earliest set to end in February 2022 for devices on the AT&T network.
