Durable Medical Equipment provider in Ingham, Eaton & Clinton Counties
Health insurance may cover needed durable medical equipment items when there is a doctor’s order and using an approved (by your insurance company) durable medical equipment provider. Durable medical equipment can also be found at loan closets or resale stores. Things like lift chairs or scooters may also be found online, such as on Facebook Marketplace.

Michigan Assistive Technology Loan Fund
The Michigan Assistive Technology Loan Fund provides loans with low interest rates to help people with disabilities (or their family members) purchase assistive technology devices or services. Devices can include hearing aids, wheelchairs, motorized scooters, Braille equipment and other assistive technology. For more information, consult their website: https://www.matlf.org/
Michigan Assistive Technology Program
This program has a small lending library with a wide variety of devices for people with disabilities, including older adults, to borrow for a short time to help determine what works and what doesn’t work. Medicare’s Wheelchair and Scooter Benefit
Medicare Part B covers wheelchairs and scooters a doctor prescribes. A face-to-face examination and a written prescription from a treating provider are required before Medicare will cover this. Part B covers power wheelchairs and scooters only if they are medically necessary, not for recreation. There are limits to his benefit. You may have a 20% co-pay.
