Some people prefer to hire in-home care through a home care agency rather than use a private caregiver who works independently.  Home care agencies may screen and train their staff, have different levels/types  of caregivers  and can sometimes find a new caregiver if one is ill or someone is not a good fit.  When choosing an agency, it is important to consider the hourly cost, the minimum number of hours that the agency will staff and how they screen and train their employees.  Medicare does not cover private duty home care services.  However, it is important to double- check with the individual’s other insurance  policies to see if there is private-duty coverage.  If there is other coverage, it is important to ask the insurance company if they have preferred providers that have to be used.
