Kinship Care Respite Program for Families

What is Kinship Care?

Kinship care is when relatives or close family friends take on the responsibility of raising a child whose parents are unable to, or a family member living with a disability.

What is the Kinship Care Respite Program?

The goal of the Kinship Care Respite Program is to help provide a break and relieve some of the stress from the daily routine of caregiving.

Older adults who are full-time caregivers are faced with many challenges when taking care of children or adults with disabilities. It is important for caregivers to focus on parenting, but also to remember to take care of their own needs.

The Kinship Care Respite Program was developed to provide rest, relief and a break from everyday caregiving. This program will assist full-time caregivers by arranging and funding activities for their dependents, as well as providing supplemental services to help families meet their caregiving needs.

Eligibility:

Kinship caregivers 55 years of age or older who live in Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties are eligible to participate. The program is intended to assist senior caregivers caring for a child or children eighteen years of age or younger, or adult family members aged 18-59 living with a disability.

This is a free service

There is no cost to eligible caregivers in the tri-county area. This program is made available in whole or part with funding from the Federal Older Americans Act and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services/Bureau of Aging, Community Living, and Supports through TCOA.
