Have you heard of Senior Action Week and Older Michiganians Day?
Organized by the Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan in partnership with Michigan’s 16 Area Agencies on Aging, this annual effort brings attention to the issues that matter most to older adults, caregivers, and families.
Senior Action Week takes place May 11–15, 2026 and offers a meaningful opportunity to speak up and make a difference across Michigan.
At the heart of the week is Older Michiganians Day, happening Wednesday, May 13 on the Capitol Lawn. This free, public event brings people together from across the state to stand in support of aging with dignity and independence.
Everyone is encouraged to participate in advocacy efforts throughout the week. There are simple, impactful ways to get involved:
- Download and mail a letter to your elected officials.
- Sign and send a pre-written message online in support of key issues.
- Like and share our social posts during Senior Action Week May 11-15 on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Join us at the Capitol. (Reach out to Kate Long at [email protected] for more information.)
Resources—including advocacy letters and detailed platform information—are available at tcoa.org/advocacy.
The Aging Network has prioritized four platform issues for 2026:
- Rebalance State Medicaid Expenditures to Support Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)
- Increase Access to Non-Medicaid HCBS
- Modernize and Enhance Access to MI Choice
- Support Unpaid Family and Informal Caregivers
Your voice matters. Join us May 11–15 and help make Michigan a place where everyone can age with dignity and independence.
